Title: Out with the new and in with the old!
Post by: gmcjr on July 07, 2013, 10:45:12 PM
Finally, the troublesome, didn't want to start hot, Solex is gone.....

Took two WOs to make a good one.
The old girl seems to run a little better, I waiting to see if the fuel economy stays the same.

I've not heard too many good things about the Solex replacement carbs...

Good job on the W-O..!

That fuel line being so close to the exhaust manifold might cause you trouble though....

Thanks! The fuel line is a few inches away from the manifold, the odd angle of the pic makes it look otherwise. Good eye though!

Very good move!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I did the same thing recently.  I found that the Solex ran too rich, so I installed the always recommended regulator.  I had to dial it all the way to 5psi or it would be starved for fuel.  It  just made things worse.

Rebuilding and installing the Carter-WO really improved my Willys performance.

After a few miles, it does seem like the Carter performs overall better than the Solex, but it seems a little more cold natured for some reason, but not enough matter. We live at 700 feet above sea level,  I hoping to try it out in the Colorado high country in Sept!

As of right now, yes! My wife has vacation time scheduled, my supervisor ok'd mine this morning, and we have free lodging in Salida, so if the good lord's willing and the creeks don't rise,  we will be there!!!

Sounds great.  I can't express how much fun that trip is.  Great people. Great Willys. Great trails.  My wife and I went last year for the first time.  We've been looking forward to this years FCT since we got home from the last one.
