Title: Rolling Chassis? Close.

Finally installed the engine this weekend. Is this a bit of a psychological hi point in a rebuild? Perhaps its the first start of a rebuilt engine? Anyways I wanted to share the progress to this point. A major milestone indeed. CONGRATS! There's something about setting the motor in place that changes your project from just a pile of scattered parts to an actual vehicle again. Motor, wheels, transmission all bolted up - the basic requirements of even the most rudimentary vehicles. Looks great and no doubt very satisfying for you. Nice work.

I pulled my tranny out 3(!!!) times before it was right. It was much easier to get at in "rolling chassis" form than if I had installed the tub. Steal the seat off the garden tractor, bolt it to the Jeep frame, and go for a series of test drives.

Heading down south for a few days to warm up but when I get back I will need some help on just what I need electricly/mechanicly to fire it up. Time for a road trip Ryan and bring your JD tractor seat and camera.
 GG got to blame the USMC Forest Green on my pride to the organization that gave me direction back in the late 60s and the great job Tim (Athawk11) did on his 3A. Mine is a 1950 3A, but I want to dress it as close to a M38 as I can. GG without knowing it you have put me in the hot seat, my grandson keeps asking when we are going for a ride in the "Army Jeep" (painful) and my wife keeps talking about the red one with the wreath parked in the snow, yours. Very little outside interest when it was a sandblasted frame, now I have quite a few opinions of what to do! I guess that's the fun of it all....

Looks like you'll have to buy a second Jeep so you can have one red and one green. Athawk may have just the deal for you.....

If it were me, I would paint it whatever color I would like. I don't care for doing OD green on any of mine because I like to add stainless bolts and chrome pieces. With OD, you're stuck with everything green. Don't get me wrong, I like the OD jeeps, just not mine. I like to have a little fun.  ;)
