Hope this is o.k. to post. Surfacezero does not allow albums now so I want to keep my workshop project in a continuous order. After 35 years with a single car garage finally going to have a place to work. Little over 300 sq ft. Tried to get an extra 4' but missus said no dice on giving up the kitchen sink window. It was a immediate no and after 40+ years I know the difference. Am doing it as owner/builder and what a pain for permits. I am an electrical contractor so know a little of process but a lot more involved and time consuming than I thought it would be

Forget camera distortion. Roof does no sag like that. It is backside of my garage and I will not cut a door through so outside door and a roll up door to keep maximum height inside

The orange paint is where water heater is. I have underground looped copper so had to make sure they did not drill my pipes with re bar that had to be epoxied to tied slab's together

Next is the lumber package and trusses so it will be a while before another update.

NICE!, soon you'll have it full and be lookin for more. Yes permits SUCK! I'm glad I live in an area where we don't have them. As long as you own the property, build what you want, where you want. The only permit is a state sewer permit and a walk through by the electric before they flip there switch.

Well a little early but nice weather now and rainy season is 2 months away sooooo :)
Been moving the extra dirt. 22 wheelbarrows so far. Probably 35 total when I am done. Filling in along fence on low spots and flattening out outside of fence along lake so who needs the gym membership?

Got trusses and lumber package delivered so it is finally underway. Contractor will take a look and work out a schedule. Fortunately for me he is a GC and Roofer so no scheduling conflicts and blaming why something doesn't fit with 2 company's. :)

Day 2, boy with the wind codes down here this thing is strapped and anchored. Original house was built in 1984 and I think 90 mph winds and now it is 160 mph rated. I have 10'5" to peak inside and very happy for that.

Beautiful, Steve! Man, you are going to love having a space for your 3A. I also built a detached garage for my tools and (at the time) a future jeep. Got the jeep 10+ years ago and have been a happy camper ever since.

Day 4 trusses set and tied into existing house. Inspections for tomorrow sheathing and strapping. Door and window still have not come in so a bummer on that but at least it is not holding up the roof and the little bit of electrical for now.

Some more progress. Got sheathing and strapping inspection and rough electric. 2 switches and 3 lights I was sweating that one out ;)
Here is the roll up door. Very pleased as I don't lose any headroom inside.

Here is the inside with 1 LED light on. It will light the whole thing using 100 watts. If you have old flourescent strips or takes forever to come on discharge lighting give led's a look. Price and quality have made them a bargain.

Next inspection is called a dry in that is roof membrane and drip edge. When that passes I can install soffit/facia than have 2 sides stuccoed. Still no door and window bummer.

We have heavy rains right now so an glad the tarp is gone.

Final turn now. Door and window set and roof done. Got final on framing and roof. Hopefully stucco next week and install 2 lights for a final electric and 1 wall with vinyl siding then final inspection. Of course hottest months now and plenty of rain but have some place to work ;D

Finally got final inspection today :) Took on a remodel job that is brutal and had no gas in the tank to do any work at home but did get work done last Saturday and called for final. Inspector was a butthead said I had to paint my stucco which as an owner/builder I did not have to do and we are repainting the whole house when summer is over. So just got paint and did it instead of wasting 2 days fighting the building department. And now it it mine to start working inside.

It mirrors the existing house and looks like it was built at same time which is very important to me. I have started inside building a loft to put long material up out of the way and gong to get insulation and plywood/osb this saturday. As far as cooling goes i have 2 original Hunter 52" fans and also I have a whole house fan which we had in hallway when we built the house. I will put it in the deck and build a chase to the vent on end so I can flush the place out in about 15 second. With roll up door and the window will have plenty of air flow. Happy I am.

Very nice . . I remember the first time I could work "inside". . . . So much better than a gravel driveway, with tarp if it rained.

Some delays with work and crazy rain we have been having. I got my end wall sheathed and insulation up. Loft built and support/partition wall framed. Additional loft section framed to be installed and the exhaust fan will be in this piece. I will have 84 sq ft for material up off the floor and out of the way.

Well we have had break in hot weather so can work setting up inside. Good progress and mostly how I pictured things working out. I built my box to exhaust hot air from shop but can't tell how effective it is although it was what we used to flush our whole house with years ago. It is quieter than I thought it would be and that is a good thing. Used osb even though I don't need it that heavy but plywood and paneling cost too much to justify using them.Slow computer so pic's a little later

This is finished ceiling in the bays with low profile LED lighting. These things are great as they only need about 2" of space to put a box and clip the light in.
