Ok, so my fiends have been bugging me to get a beater truck. They like the K series Chevys. So I found a really crusty '83 K20 on CL which I bought last week. It has a sweet running 350, TH400, NP208 Tcase, GM 10 bolt front and 14 bolt rear. The drivetrain alone was worth what I paid for it.
Anywho, the driver's side frame rail is completely gone behind the cab. The heavy duty flat bed is holding it together. Floors are shot too. Rear brakes work!
Well, heres the prize! If flexes surprisingly well with only one frame rail!

Now you know why I'm blaming my friends, but why Fast N' Loud? Well, Moday night's episode gave me some ideas for this rusty long bed.

I have plans though to make this the most bada$$ beater truck ever. Stay tuned for some real high performance mods and frame repair!

But get that frame rail welded or you'll crack that puppy in two. Then you'll have to drag it home with the Titan.
So will an old CJ fit in the bed of that thing? Just curious.

Nah, she's good. One frame rail is all it needs. That's why they give you a spare! I'm sure the jalopy would fit on the back. Don't really feel like testing the shear strength of wood though...

I figured it already had enough HP. I think with all these mods, I'm pushing 400 HP. Anymore, and I could do some serious damage!

Does Summit Racing sell a mullet wig you can wear while driving that beast??? Looks like it's gonna be loads of fun.

No they sell stupid stuff like cams, carbs, superchargers, ect... Who needs that stuff? Autozone sells this quality HP! ;D

Do the rear brakes still work after that severe frame flex test? I like the lund visor, too.

GUYS, I have a HUGE issue now. My dad used the battery for something else and now I lost ALL my radio presets!!!!!! What should I do now? How do I fix this issue? Its not like I have a broken frame or anything....... :-X

I've got an old Motorola, tube-type radio with mechanical pushbuttons that will remember the presets with no power.
Want to swap for a Jeep?

Phew! Emergency averted. I put the battery back in and fixed the radio. Now I can move on with the small issues.

The passenger side is still good. That side is wasted. I just bought a replacement frame and body for it today. Wonder what it is? 8-) ;)

I found a new home for beater truck's drivetrain, a rust free 55 Chevy. This truck has no engine or tranny. I'm going to swap in the axles too and make a sweet little hot rod truck!

Yeah, it will stay a flatbed. I'll narrow it and shorten it to make it more sporty. I thought about building a short step side bed, but then I thought I would put our construction company's logo on it and the flatbed would make it look more like an old company truck.
The nice thing about this truck is it is only missing the trim pieces. It does have a perfect front bumper and a kinda rough grille. It is the perfect truck to build into something cool.� 8-)

Is that a factory Chevy flatbed or a generic?? Looks like an Adler's truck..wonder if Bob has seen it before? What size tires? I don't recognize the rims as being right for the truck..Not that it matters with your plans.I love that body style, are the eyebrows still solid?.
Personally I think a faded, Texas blue Suburban would be lots cooler. ;) ;D I think I could arrange a trade for you.

I think it is just a generic flatbed like with modern trucks how knaphead and reading make bodies. This truck came from a local farm and was sold during an auction. I have no idea what size the tires are. The rear is dually Bill, that is why they are bigger.

I knew it was a dually, I didn't live near Adlers for over a decade for nothing, ya know. He'd probably take the old parts off your hands if you decide to let go of them, as a lot of that stuff is getting hard to find.
Wow, solid sheet metal on a Northeast truck of that vintage is awesome. COOL!

Been making so progress on the fitty-five.
I had a blown up 305 SBC, so I gutted that and bolted the block to the tranny and got the engine/tranny mount figured out.

The driveshaft needs to be longer by 3'', so I'll drop that off someplace to get modified.
I yanked the engine out of the beater truck a month ago and finally got around to cleaning it and painting it. Now I just have to paint the engine bay and put it all back together! I'm going to upgrade the stock MC to a vacuum boosted dual MC. I also have some new wheels and drag slicks picked out for the rear.

Nice install. Did you swap heads on this 350 or is this a crate motor? I notice you have center bolt valve covers....

It was a GM Goodwrench engine that was put into the beater truck.

The 55 has been coming along. Its now 4wd with a D60 int he front and a long bed step side too.

This project has been on hold while I finished the Jalopy, which is done now thank god! I managed to find the best thing for the 55 in the meantime.... ;)
Yesterday was the start of a nightmare crappy job. Up in Claremont NH is a comcast facility on top of a mountain. ::) Apparently, the generator has had issues for the past few years and they decided that it is now an EMERGENCY to replace it in the middle of WINTER!!!! ::) ::) So me and an other guy go up there with a nice used Onan Cummins unit. The generator is down a hill in a not so easy to get to place. We mounted the used one on skids to skid it in place. Long story short, we got the old one out and the used one almost in place. A brake line blew too on the crane truck to top it off.
I happened to look inside the old genny and on the valve cover, a sticker said GM 8.2L. [smiley=evil.gif] An industrial 502 big block chevy!!!! So I called my boss up to see if I could have the engine and he said yes!!!! So I guess the 55 chevy truck will be getting a new power plant after I convert it from LP to gasoline. The bell housing pattern looked correct to me. It has a serpentine belt set up too.

Maybe! I know Bill wants to see it. I bought a new 20' trailer two. So maybe I'll bring Ted and the Jalopy so I can pick which one I want to take on the trail!

That would be pretty decent power for my 46 Chevy pickup project. Curious what sort of cam profile they used in those. CR is apparently 9:1.

Nope, still been working on it. I took it drag racing on May 1 and did 23 passes averaging 18 sec.
Tomorrow, this bad boy is going in, a 383 stroker crate engine with 430 HP and 475 ft-lbs of torque. Also have a built turbo 400 to go behind it.

The cr is 10:1. No idea on the cam. It has a full roller valve train too.

I haven't posted recently about the 55 chevy. I almost got the bed all done. I just need some new fenders and paint to match the cab. I made some custom length steps for it after I stretched the bed. I used a long bed and short bed step. I had to cut them at the angle to get the length right. I also got some new tires for it, 34 x 10.50 TSLs. They fit the truck well and have the vintage look to it.

I got the new fenders on and the bed all repainted. Came out pretty good!
