In preparation for Rausch Creek on Saturday I installed the roll bar and seatbelts today (Hell apparently has frozen over....) along with tall enough hood blocks to lay the windshield down when the mood strikes me.  I also modified the jerry can bracket so the top bows can lay flat. Lots of other general tuning and tinkering that a neurotic person like me does prior to any trip. I'm sure I've addressed everything except for the thing that will break.

The seat belt and roll bar rules are indeed the park rules. From what I have seen Ryan does need an armor plated roof!  ;D

Well, I know there are seat belt and roll bar rules for some of those 4-Wheeler parks, but Bob W is probably anticipating your uncanny ability to pick a parking spot that attracts large falling trees. [smiley=happy.gif]

I would add:  In some ways you seem so lucky.  In other ways...not so much. :o

I am planning to attend the Willys Picnic and Rausch Creek ride in a couple weeks. Bob W has insisted I have a roll bar and seat belts for the event (apparently he took notice of my driving style in NH a couple years ago ;D ).

Today, I snagged both in one stop. It's nice to be able to sell off old Jeep carcasses but retain the ability to scavenge parts from them years later.

Now, time to devise the most temporary way possible to install a functional roll bar....

I installed a new set of Walck's springs today and instantly watched this Willys grow 2" at all of my many "before-and-after" measuring points. I'll be curious to see how these hold up. I've never had Walck's springs but the first impressions are they are much better built than Crowns or the Omix ones - not to say I'm unhappy with either of those brands but the Walck's ones are HEAVY DUTY. I went with the same spring pack as what came off - 10 leaf fronts and 9 in the rear.

It's nice to bomb down my potholed road knowing something besides my tailbone on the seat pan is actually absorbing the bumps.

Here's a good comparison shot. All new springs here except the driver's side. And then the next pic is with the driver's side one done. Quite a difference.

The past couple weeks of Ring Gear & Transmission Hell seemed to have finally paid off. I logged 150 flawless miles up to Moosehead Lake yesterday with sustained hour-long 50+mph drives each way. If you want to induce a drivetrain leak that's a good way to do it. This morning all I have under the Jeep is a few drops of engine oil, presumably from the rear main seal. Given the torture test it endured yesterday I am very pleased.

This 3A is running superbly right now. The combined engine and trans gear whine noise is sewing machine smooth. Shifts are crisp and being able to accelerate up long hills is a welcomed novelty. Sure is fun during those rare times the planets align themselves correctly and everything is as it should be.

Oh yeah, before I embarked on my marvelous journey I swapped out the master cylinder on the gray 3A. While doing so the master cylinder bracket swung down and karate chopped my eye socket. Always wear you safety glasses kids!

Ryan that is awesome, I love your GoPro editing abilities... Dang, I got the GoPro but no skills...

I love when the jeep flies out of the garage and sprays dirt on the floor... Really brings the story to life..

Bravo!

Thanks Tim. I didn't notice until after the fact that I kept shifting the camera slightly every time I bumped it with my head or changed out the memory card. I wasn't about to go back and rebuild the tranny again for a second take though ;D
