I think your questions are straight forward.  It's your firewall that is confusing.  I've been duped before thinking what I'm looking at is original configuration when, in fact, it's not.  The second half of my post is more direct to the point of missing holes.  The third link is from Bob W.'s CJ3A Info page showing all the holes (plus some specific CJV holes you can ignore) on the firewall illustrating there should be some lateral separation between your cable and breather mount.

I've seen photos of a 2A firewall and all the holes but don't recall seeing one of a 3A.  All this is guessing on my part - I don't have a 3A to look at to measure or pull pictures from the inside of the firewall for assistance.  If your breather sits squarely, it sure seems easier to add holes for the cable bracket.

Thanks for your reply. In fact, my pictures are not meaningful, but meant to show where the holes are located vs the cable hole. There are not aligned. The clamp is obviously upside down in my pics, as you rightfully mentioned. But my point was, whether in the CJ3a the two holes for bolting the cane support to the firewall should normally be below the cable hole. I would then need to drill 2 new holes.
The breather sits correctly with both brackets in place.
Not sure if I make myself understandable but thanks for your reply and links. I'll probably need to drill 2 new holes for the cane.

Something looks off.  Your hand brake bracket looks like it is upside down.  See images on other threads:

Then the cable and clamp will go on the outboard side of the bracket.  Also, notice the spacing between the cable bracket and the breather bracket.  Could either (or both) of the breather brackets be bent?

Have you attempted removing the inner breather bracket from the firewall, attaching it to the breather and then attaching that to the outer bracket to see if it still sits over the same holes?  I believe the breather brackets are supposed to have captured nuts on the inside of the firewall.

I am back with my topic (was busy on something else unfortunately). I have taken a few more pics to explain where I'm from. On my jeep, the break cable bracket to the firewall, the brake cane support and the air filter brackets shared the same holes in the firewall. This gives the brake cable a weird angle at the firewall and does not look correct to me.
On similar Jeep pictures found on the internet, seems like the brake cane support and the bracket are bolted below the cable hole in the db aside from the airfilter braket holes.
I'd like to know what you guys are having as a set-up and if I need to drill new holes into the firewall?
Hope this time I explained it better and thanks beforehand for your advices.

Patrick,  Did you just say "cane"?  My info and pic is for a 3A "T-Shaped handle" E-Brake, as seen in the first pic here.  The second and third pics (you have to zoom in), sorry I don't have but two pics including a "cane E-Brake", it shows relative to the windshield's "vent location" that the "cane" E-Brake is located closer to the driver, and slightly lower, and MOST DIFFERENT of all, it sits in a recessed "angled" location facing downward, NOT straight into the dash like my pics.  Hope that helps.  Do you have a pic of your dash and E-Brake now?

Thanks Steve for your answer. I will try to figure out the best position for the cane and the bracket holes and potentially drill the firewall to re-adjust the set-up. Thanks for the pic, it is indeed slightly different on mine.

It appears to me that someone has filled in the original hole thru the firewall for the E-brake.  It should have come thru straight behind the E-brake just passenger side of the driver's side of the air cleaner bracket, next to the top of the Air cleaner bracket to its left.  My pic attached shows the hole and bracket but no E-brake.  The Air Cleaner bracket has a tab sticking out at an angle, and a clip held the E-brake cable to the bracket there to guide the cable around the Air Cleaner.  Your air cleaner bracket looks lower than mine as well.  Hope that helps.

Hi Everyone,

I have a peculiar set-up in my CJ3a (maybe) where the bottom bolt of the inner air filter bracket and the e-brake cable clamp share the same firewall hole. I have not taken enough picture when dismantling this set-up and am having hardtime putting it back as it was, as it seems to be bending the e-brake cable in an usual manner. Does anyone have the same set-up? Would anyone share picture of the mounting of both clamp and brackets?
Thanks if anyone can share a pic or give a clue.
