I knew it was going to be ridiculously pic heavy (and not updated as frequently as I would have liked), so I did it in a blog site.

Just about done! From that original pile of parts under my kids' swing set I've got a running rig that is an absolute joy to tool around in. (Now I've just got to fix the leaks and get the brakes to work better.)

Thanks for all the help, guys!

Well, this thing is proving to be more and more of a mutt, which is cool. I was going to call it a CJ2.82634A because it's going to have a blend of 2A and 3A parts (mostly 3A, which is why I was weighting its numerical designation closer to 3), but I'm not sure what calculation to use now that it may have some CJ3B or 5 parts in it, as well. ::)

I'll jack up the back and rotate the tires to see if it's closer to 2:79 revolutions per or 3.34 per. That at least will help me diagnose if it's a T90A or C. (I'm betting it's a T90A.)

Both those spots have been ground smooth (noticeably so compared to the rougher casting surface around them), just like the back of the Xfer case. Weird. Not sure what the plan was for whoever did that.

That is unusual. The best we can do is this.......

The transfer case with the 1 1/4" intermediate shaft is from mid 1954 or later.
We know that Willys used up all the T-90A transmission cases before changing the casting to say T-90C. There are lots of T-90A cases with T-90C guts. I think the T-90C guts with the 3.34:1 1st gear was around 1959 for the CJs.

So you've probably got a trans and transfer case from a 3B or even a CJ-5.

What is stamped on the transmission case here?

I've got a mutt of a rig and I love it, but I need some of this site's collective wisdom to help me figure out what tranny/Xfer case models I have.

The casting numbers on the tranny are as follows:
- on the main case, T90A-1 in large print and 69-11-7 in small print nearby.
- on the shifter base, T90C 148D

So is this a T90A-1 or a T90C with an A case (which my research leads me to think is a possibility)? I need to do a rebuild and want to order the right kit.

The transfer case has no large casting numbers at all, which surprises me. Since it is a Dana 18 (I know that much) with a PTO and a Warn overdrive unit, I expected to see a C 15-18-XX type of casting number. But the intermediate shaft measures 1 1/4", not 1 1/8" as I would have expected from a Xfer case from this year 3A.

Are these clues telling you that it's a later model T90C coupled to a later Dana 18? Or ...?

I'm doing my level best to research this thing but I just can't find anything precise to help me in my rebuild efforts.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Thanks, guys.  I'm very excited about digging and making something from this pile of bones.

OK, that's the kind of playground I'd have liked to have when I was a kid. Swings over an obstacle course of Jeep parts. Woohoo.
