It also may be that your JDMSPEED is bad. I went through three of those “universal” switches (2 from KW and 1 from Amazon) earlier this year. All had bad internal wiring. I bought my fourth one, this time a a Signal-stat, for three times as much, but it works.

That really helps with understanding what you have.  Since it's a universal meant to fit "early rat rods" it may actually have been meant for incandescent bulbs (one thing I notice is no specific flasher is recommended).  Mixing and matching bulbs and flasher can show unexpected performance.

Just like my switch, I see where it states to ensure good grounding.  I wasn't willing to remove paint on my column just to get a good ground, so I ran a separate ground wire to get it connected.  Yours may be sufficient, but you could also attach a temp ground wire to verify.  I think testing with an older flash may be helpful.

Thanks for the replies. The switch I'm attempting to install is an Amazon special, JDMSPEED New Chrome 12V Universal.
I have a buddy that has  an old car junk yard, and I'm going to see if I can just use an old style flasher unit and try that, before I spend money on a new one.

I was looking online, and on the two prong flasher style, the tell tale (blue wire) is grounded, and on the 3 prong it connects to the flasher. I was thinking the flasher it self needs to be grounded, but the flasher is plastic, and no way to ground it.

Tchara,
I have observed something similar with my signalstat 900.

I use a flasher designed for LED's (which I presume means it does not rely on certain resistance in the lamp circuit to have a correctly timed flash rate). The flasher module is an AMAZON special "CEC" brand meant to use with LED lamps. (I use LEDS for my grille, and regular filament bulbs in the tail lamps).

When I signal, the indicator lamp flashes normally in the signal stat unit. When I turn off the signal stalk back to center, the indicator lamp continues to flash about 6 or 7 times, and each time the indicator gets dimmer and dimmer, and then it stops.
DUring those 6 or 7 flashes, the lamps (both front and back) do not flash. SO in my case it's just the flasher can supplying a strange withering signal for a few cycles to the indicator. I just live with it.
Maybe it IS your flasher module...

Still trying to figure these signals out, and I plugged the flasher in at an angle so the wire for the tell tale bulb doesn't connect, and the flasher stops in the center position as it should, and all the lights work, but the tell tale bulb doesn't work.
So for some reason the tell tale wire going into the switch is powering the flasher. But whether  it's a bad flasher or a bad switch is anyone's guess. I guess if I need to, I can cut the wire to the tell tale, and just not have indicators until I figure it out.

Thanks for the response. Mine is a constant flash. The flasher unit isn't shutting off when the switch is in the central position. My hazard lights work, and signals work as they should in conjunction with the brake lights. When the switch is in the center position, none of the lights are coming on. It just continues to flash the red indicator light.

Hi,  I have just checked mine and it occasionally does the same thing.  I assume that you mean it occasionally flashes once not constantly.
 If so I don't think it's a problem.  I think that the light we see on the unit is a single bulb moved up and down with the indicator arm and passing beneath coloured lenses.  When you cancel it the bulb end up in the central position under the red hazard filter but may still have one more flash left in it.  I have only just noticed mine do it after reading your message and have never worried about it in the past  Hope this helps.

Hi all,
I'm installing after market signal lights on my CJ3a. I wired the switch according to the manufacture's wiring diagram.
The signal lights work, but when I return the switch to the center position, the red hazard light indicator flashes.
I purchased an electronic 3 prong flasher unit, and am wondering if the electronic flasher meant for LED's is incompatible with incandescent bulbs, or the switch I purchased is defective.
Has any one else ran into a similar issue?
Maybe I need to get a mechanical (old style) flasher. I wouldn't think it would matter, but I'm kinda stumped as to what I should try next.
