Jim,
A quick check of the front mount with the tape measure says from the edge of the frame to the tip of the shock mount post is 2.75".  The shock mount itself, however, sticks out about 1" itself where the post exits out of that.  So, the post is about 1 3/4" for the shock to slide onto.

Hi All
I need to know how far out the shock mount post sticks out from the frame. My frame has no shock mounts on it.   I am going to use later style CJ mounts I have but there's no reference points for correct mounting. The main thing needed is how far out does the shock mount post stick out from the frame. I am able to find the shock mount "vertical center"
thanks Jim
