Hi Larry, how are you?
We have seen how a CJ2A has been transformed by the owner as an MB, A Cj3A as an M38, a CJ5 as an M38A1 and a CJ3B as an M606.
Everyone does what they want with their vehicle, but the idea of this Post would be to call things for what they are, Civil Militarized by their own owners. Different, it is the case of the M606 that was militarized under military requirements and by its manufacturer.
Maybe I am very purist and it is not my desire to offend anyone. Know excuse me.
Best regards!

Luis, though my jeep is actually an original '53 3B (with an unknown brand aftermarket tub), I've semi modified it's appearance to that of an M606 and back earlier this year, I moved the spare from the right rear to the tailgate using an original M38 tailgate with the reinforcement angles and tire bracket. To me this set up simply "looks better" than the spare hanging off the side and blocking the partial view of the right rear tire. That tailgate also having the reinforcement support for a jerry can bracket, I added one of those to the rear as well and received a lot of compliments on the rig at this year's 4th of July celebration parade! Spare tire carrier on reinforced tailgate found in DOD 02-1967 M606

According to my records, until DOD 10-1966 the spare tire arrived installed on the right side as well as a jerry can holder.
After DOD 10-1966 it would have arrived with the spare tire and jerry can holder in the reinforced tailgate like M38 jeep.

Over the years that I have been connected to the M606 jeeps, I still do not understand what they confuse with any other militarized cj3b outside the factory or by a customer.

It is very simple to know if it was militarized at the factory since it is simpler than everyone believes.
I hope this info a little light to this topic.

Peculiar parts List

If your high hood cj3b jeep was not manufactured between 1963 and 1967 and does not have these peculiar parts, it was never and will not be an M606!!
