Yes, you absolutely need to keep lube in the knuckles.  As posted,  the king pin bearings are dependent on it and I think the wiper seals would also wear prematurely without it.  As for lube, for 5 decades I've been using Lubriplate 105 straight from the tube.  Works great.

Maybe some of this on the shims would do the trick (http://gasgacinch.com/home/products/)   I dunno, but its worth a try on your next knuckle service.

I used the CV joint lube on the most recent project.� I like it.



Like 1955CJ-5, I have similar knuckle pudding mix in the first project.� It weeps a bit out the king pin shim area, but overall, I like it too.

I've been going around on this lately. I believe that straight 140W is the best choice, that's what Walck's advises too. I feel the corn head grease alone won't provide adequate splash and lubrication especially for the king pin bearings.

I would still fill the knuckles..The upper and lower kingpin bearings will get some lube from the "knuckle pudding" and who knows what else may benefit. I don't think there is a down side..

For what it's worth I mixed a little SAE140 gear oil with the cornhead grease..consistency was somewhere between the two...

I used an old squeeze bottle to fill the knuckles..

I installed new axles from walcks that have the universal joints with grease  zerts. Do I still fill the knuckle up 2/3s full? I am going to use corn head grease. Thanks for your help. al
