My tub is at the body shop but it looks like I forgot to drill the hole in the cowl brace for the sending unit wire as well. What do I need to do to prevent rust where I drill the holes?

My replacement tub was built in February 2015. The pto shifter hole was there, high beam indicator hole, fuel hole, pedal holes, and all gauges.

Problem was the gauge holes were too small, the fuel tank holes were in the wrong location, and the brake pedal hole was off >:( Nothing a welder and a burr bit cant fix but dang its frustrating.

Welcome to repop land! I have an MD Juan repop 2A tub that I am just about finished with. Fortunately I had 2 original tubs to pick parts from. We had to rework nearly everything and add as many original parts from the older tubs as we could.

THE SIDE BRACE WAS NOT DRILLED FOR THE FUEL GAUGE WIRE - JUST DID THAT TODAY. I used masking and a bit of color matched spray paint to prevent rust starting.

Some of the gauge fit - others I had to enlarge the dash holes.

No PTO hole so I cut one from one of my other tubs and fitted it.

The fuel tank holes in the floor did not match my fuel tank.

Th tool box lit was a disaster. Used a tool box lid and catch from one of my original tubs,

Bow pockets and storage pockets missing - needed to graft them from another of my tubs.

The seats did not fit - and at least one was an original seat. Spent a lot of time re-working seats and tub to resolve this.

The hood (original) needed to be worked on a lot to get it to fit. In the end it was a compromise.

Most of the dash holes were there, but no ignition key hole. Did have the high beam tell tale light hole.

Hawk and Jim, thanks for the kind words.

My tub came with the high beam indicator hole but I had to cut out the PTO hole.  The holes in my dash were one of the few things right with my tub.  Well except for the fact that I had to make some of them bigger. >:(

CJPilot .... I assume that yours is an new tub also.  Our dashboards are different.  You have the ignition hole and the high beam knock-out.

Tumbleweed .... I also have a new tub and it comes with an overdrive or PTO square hole behind the transmission.  I plan to just blank it off for now.

Nice looking tub CJPilot! Was the PTO hole cut already?  You also have the High Beam Indicator hole.  Did you drill that?

Thanks for the photos Tumbleweed.  Big Help.  I couldn't find any good stuff in my photo collection.

Jim,

This is the routing that I have on my rig - hope it helps for reference.

Beautiful .... You have more correct holes in the dash than mine.

Keep asking.

I'm a few weeks behind you and seem to have all the same questions.

Perfect .... That is where I thought a hole should be.  I just like to be sure before drilling.

Thanks.

In Randy's photo, the small hole at the very top of the cowl support is where the fuel sender wire is suppose to be.

The reproduction tubs leave out little details like this.  That hole is a real bear to drill.  Especially once the tub is already painted.  It may be easier to drill a bit lower on the support.  You might be able to get it pretty close.

I think your support should have a hole in it..but don't start drilling just yet..I'll see if I can get a picture for you... The wire should route under the dash and if I remember right there was a clip in that area.

It looks like you might have it routed through the hole meant for the light switch..

Here is a picture of how my jeep used to look!

But you can see the small hole in the cowl support just under the rolled lip...

I am still working with the new tub and trying to figure out the location for the fuel tank sensor wire.  I have a picture showing the wire coming off the top of the tank and going behind the side support.  I would expect that the wire would be under the side lip up into the dash area.  My tub has a support blocking the access to the dash.  My alternative is to drill a hole for the wire through the support.

Does this look correct?
