Yes it should be connected with the tail lights.
Are you sure the tail lights are ON in the first postiion with no headlights?

You may be surprised what you find. My 3B was (mis)wired so the headlights came on whenever you pushed on the brake pedal. :D

It should connect to the tail light terminal...and possibly what your diagram is saying but I'm a little confused by it (which, as you know, doesn't take much).

Thanks for the reply Scoutpilot..
Headlight terminal makes make's sense, I'm looking at the wiring diagram I used and the blue #32 is tied in with the yellow #28 tail light terminal.
Switching it to the yellow #21 headlight terminal should solve the problem of the dash light?

Your dash light power wire may be hooked to the Parking light terminal instead of the headlight terminal on the switch. Wild fluctuations may be lack of lubrication and/or a bad gear in the speedo.

Since getting my 3A running and registered in April I have confined my trips to a mile or two while create a short and long term punch list of repairs and adjustments. This morning I took the longest drive yet, 14 miles from home to the office at 4AM.
It may be late June but it was 53 at 4AM here in Maine, restoring the heater is just became #1 on the long term list.
A few questions: The dash light came on only when the light switch was half way in the parking light position. Should'nt it stay on with the headlights?
New speedometer cable but speedometer still dances back and forth wildly?  Why?
