What I finally did was to find some Dark Walnut Brown rustoleum, painted the buckets, and then clear coated with a matte clear coat.

The picture shows the unpainted inner bulb holder along with the painted bucket...

Thanks for the link Tim.

After that original link dried up I though they had just given up..

Sounds like the best solution is to take the buckets in and have them match the color.....but that SEM paint looked pretty good....depends on the $$ involved....

Randy,
The most recent conversation about the brown headlight buckets was over at the 2A.  Del Clear did some extensive work at trying to track it down.  I remember reading about it, but I can't find that original post.  It doesn't read that he was overly successful.

Sounds like the brown buckets were unusual.  I'm with you. Since you have them, I would try to match them if I could.

Interesting......though comparing colors from two digital pictures isn't very accurate, your buckets appear to be a lighter shade....mine are so dark as to appear almost a steel gray...of course the buckets themselves don't have a lot of paint left on them, but the inner bulb holders are in near perfect condition...

That is strange to say the least. Sometimes I have photobucket. This one is 100% original paint.

The ones on my 49 are the original brown and they look like rustoleum brown. There are some good pictures of them in my project thread about it.

The buckets off my 3a are dark brown. Both the outside shell and the inside bulb holder are this deep brown. i found a thread over at the 2a site but no one found a color match that i know of...

Anyone else have buckets that are this color? anyone find a paint match?

I realize this is not a great picture....
