I used the flat rubber gasket provided and tightened it several times until it finally stopped leaking. I just tightened it 1/8 th turn at a time after the first tightening. Just don't over tighten it.

Hey Shalka,
I had to look back at one on your posts to see what type of oil filter housing you have.  If it's the red one in your tub photo, it looks similar to mine.  I used the rubber gasket that came with the filter. (Napa Gold)  I did leak around the cap bolt a bit and had to tighten it down to get it to stop.

Long story short i'm trying to find out which gasket I want to use with my external filter, I got both a round rubber one and a flatter fiber based one.
Also any thoughts on how much to torque the top bolt down, Oh and do I need to coat the gasket in a thin film of oil like modern day filters.

The rest of the story as paul harvey used to say is this.  I rigged up a radiator and coolant lines so I could let my engine run till it got up to temerature.  I started it and let it run.  I noticed a water leak but that was Ok I would refill what leaked out.  Well the rest of the story is that because the radiator was leaking just a bit and the fan was blowing that all over the place, I didn't notice for a few minutes the slight leak at the oil filter.  Conclusion, I ended up spraying a oil / water mix all over every other car in the driveway.  Now I've got to hand wash her car and the truck before I can "play" with my restoration.
