A pic of the floor would help.

The 2a front plate didn't fit. Someone took a piece of 3/4 x 1 and 1/2 flat bar and tried to move the rubber mount. This caused the front of the to be too low, so the radiator shroud had to be bent cause the fan was no longer centered properly. This low in front caused the transfer case to touch the underside of the tub which gave amazing gear noise. With the right engine plate and all these problems went away. I'm now confident thanks to you that I have a 3a although there is a question about the floor around the shifters. Thanks :)

Wheelhouse tops are 32". Motormounts are offset, and bumper is bolted directly to frame although the bumper I have seems a lot heavier than I remember.
All indicate a CJ3A. What makes you think it isn't? Early 3A's had Dana 41 rear differentials as well as bottom mounted radiators. Early on the radiators changed to side mount but Dana 41's hung around well into 1950. If the motormounts are offset how did a CJ2A front plate fit?

Mac, I've got an early 3A also, Dana 41, bottom mount radiator, etc. Maybe you have an aftermarket tub? Send me a PM with a picture and I'll post it for you if your still having trouble, we all love to look at Jeep pics.

You can add photo's by using Photobucket or a site like it. On Photobucket you upload the photo from your 'puter without resizing it, Photobucket does it for you. Then when you put your cursor over the photo in your album a dropdown will show and you click on the bottom link and it will automatically copy it. Then you open this thread and make a post and in the window you hold down the Ctrl key and click the V key and the photo link will appear. You can put a few photo's in one post and when you have photo's and text you post it and the photo's will appear in your post.

Offset motor mounts on the frame or directly across from each other?? Bumper gussets or bumper bolted directly to frame? Measure the length of the wheelhouse tops, they are two diffeerent lengths for 2A and 3A.  32 and 34 inches long for 3 and 2 a.

:-/ I have had this jeep about a year and still trying to figure it out. It was sold to me as a CJ3A but so far the only part that checks out to br a 3A is the frame. It had an engine with a 2A front plate cobbled in, a Dana 41 rear, transfer case says it was built in 49. 3a seat frames don't fit without cutting and bending, hole cut in floor for transfer case shifters to stick through. Any ideas? Am trying to figure out the photo thing here but not yet. That will help.
