Redrockman - currently, the linkage is jerry-rigged. I have not be able to locate throttle linkage parts to rebuild. I have an accelerator cable running from the pedal to the throttle. I've only looked online, so if anyone has a line on a parts supplier, that'd be great.

JeepsterJim - how is the wedge shim oriented? My 3a is still a long way off from the dunes, but interested in the shim.

Also - what was your solution for the air horn? Would love to see any pictures of that!

Thanks

JeepsterJim - how is the wedge shim oriented?----I don't remember think I was around 12yrs old.  it was to help keep the float or float level stable when dune running.

Also - what was your solution for the air horn?---I believe Dad used one off of a "poojoe" well thats how it sounds lol  One of those ugly euro cars.  Search on the internet for this conversion.

Will do the Rock auto thing......... Again thanks for the tips/photo's   ;) ;D ;D

Dad and I installed a F head in our 2A and we used the Falcon carb. We also made about a 3 degree wedge shim that fit between the card and intake. This helped to prevent flooding when dune jumping.  ;D ;D  The performance was greatly noticed and so was the gas milage.

My 51 CJ3a already had the F-head in it when I bought it, but had the original carburator.

You can put a Holley 1904 carb on it and still fit under the original hood line. This was used on the '60-'61 Falcon and a few others. It lines up with the existing opening and pretty much bolts right in with only some minor mods. I had to grind a little off the engine and use2 gaskets to get clearance for the choke mechanism.

The other mod was a need to 'gently' create an indentation on the valve spring cover. You can see it in 2nd picture here. The red arrows in the 1st pic are for another topic.

I got mine from rockauto.com for about $160 including the core charge. The trick is that you only have about 1.5 inches of clearance, so you have to be creative with the air horn. Haven't done that part yet. The air filter in the pix does not fit under the hood, but since the PO already carved out a big hole in the hood it'll do for now.

I think the Falcon carb is a side draft, there are a lot of posts on the 2A, site about this very change, I think FBill might even have Holly carb model numbers.

I heard some time back that a carb from a Ford Falcon was short enough to fit under a 3A hood when mounted on an F head engine.  Probably easier to locate than a side draft carb and probably easier to mount.  Anyone know anything about that?

I will not ruin a CJ3A nor will alter it's appearance.........Where do you get a side draft carb? cuz to me aCJ3B is ugly :o figured i'd ask about engine swap a friend has a good running motor he will let me have. So back to the side draft carb, whats up with the linkage for one of those?

Any suggestions welcome,

Andy

If you have to do it, buy the side draft carb, or better yet, buy a 3B.

Please don't chop up another CJ3A!  :(

How about swapping the engine for an L-Head or selling it?

Cut a hole in the hood is the short answer. The F head is to tall to put in a stock CJ3A. That is the reason they made the 3B's. There are mods you can do to make them fit such as side draft carbs.

I have a 51 CJ3A and have been offered a "F" head motor that runs fine. What do i need to do for it to fit in my jeep?
