In the good old days we didn't replace parts, we repaired them. I rebuilt fuel pumps, water pumps, generators, starters, and manually repaired voltage regulators. Sometimes the good old days were good but not so easy. �:)

My new fuelpump was leaking oil.  I removed it and found that its mating surface was not machined "flat".  I had to hand file the mating surface straight edge flat, then reinstall it.  No more leaks.  Jim

Since it's vacuum lines, clamps aren't necessary as long as it's a snug fit.

Hi Larry,

I have thought about the small length of hose as an option.  I just thouht the little clamps wouldn't look as nice.  

I did install an 1/8" steel spacer.  I understand it will help regulate fuel pressure.  I don't think this fuel pump would have fit without the spacer.  The notch cut into the new front engine plate had to be enlarged slightly to allow enough room for the screws holding the lower part of the vacuum pump together.  Without the spacer, I would have had to remove more material from the front plate and may have had an issue getting the timing cover to seal up.  There is not much room back in there.

In that case make up the steel lines and just use a short piece of rubber hose to connect them at the pump, no fittings necessary at that end.

Also, very important, be sure to install the necessary spacer between the pump and block when installing that fuel pump.

Hi Larry.
Yah, I know now that it's not the original style pump, but it is a step up from the electric pump I removed.  My Willys will never be a show winner.  CJ3A tub and chassis.  GPW motor.  All dressed up like an M38.

Still looking for some ideas for adding steel vacuum lines.

That's the wrong pump for a CJ3A. It will work but isn't correct. The correct pump has the fittings for metal tubing.

I want to run steel vacuum lines to the manifold and to the rubber hose that travels through the cowl. �Is there some type of compression fitting I can add to the straight tubes coming off this pump? �Is that a bad idea? �If there are others out there that had this issue, I would like some feedback. �

All I know is, I don't want to use rubber hosing for the full distance. �I like the clean look of the steel tubing I have seen others post at the old site.
