Not only are the NDCC supposedly quieter on the highway, but the more important reason, supposedly safer.   The idea being that the NDCC tires would ride on the center of the tire on the highway and the square shoulders usually seen on an NDT would not grab on the edges and pull the vehicles to one side or the other as much.

I was always under the impression that the NDCC tires were quieter at highway speeds due to the rounded shoulders, the squared edges of the NDT's gave a louder "hum" on pavement.

As seen in many of my posts from last summer, I often drive the trails along with a friend who has a CJ-2A that has 600 x16 NDT (square shoulders).  I have the NDCC because I could not find the NDT tires in the 700 x 15 size, which as I stated above, is the size my Jeep came with new.
The performance of the two Jeeps seems almost identical.  I posted pics on the old forum of a trip last summer where the non-directional tires proved superior to two other Jeeps with very aggressive wider tires.  Different terrain calls for different tires, I would think.

Like your Jeep, my 1949 CJ-3A also came with the optional 700 X 15s. �I restored it using the NDCC tires.

Good afternoon. Well after a lot of searching I found 7.00x15 ndcc tires at summit for 90.00$ per tire. Shipping was 32.00$ very happy. I know most of you run 16" but my 1950 cj3a came with the 15 on it. Farm jeep so 7.00x15. Cannot wait not to get stuck in mud and snow. North
