The hub seals I picked up at Advance Auto Parts. They didn't have them in stock but could order them. The part number is National 470898.

You'll need two of each.

The double lip seal is very creative and looks like it should keep dirt and water out. The problem with standard seals is they keep the grease in but will allow water to be sucked in when the hot spindle goes under cold water.

That's one reason I don't really want to go in water over the bottom of the brake drums.

I still like the speedi sleeve for fast reasonable repair. How much are the double seals and lead time to get them?

Carl, read the link above. There is a double lipped, double seal setup you can install that is much better than the factory setup.

Speedie Sleeve not cost effective? How long will it take to replace the spindle? Quite a while I think. How long does it take to drive a sleeve on a shaft? Not very long from my experience.

You have to decide how much work you want to do on that project and even then the seal may leak with a used spindle.

OTOH, most new wheel bearing greases are rather sticky and tend not to run with heat so you may get by with a worn seal surface.

It's your call but I prefer Speedi Sleeves over the time to replace the spindle.

Of course, installing them can sometimes be a little tricky, especially on a spindle on a vehicle.

Thanks Larry, I must have skipped right over that part.  Speed reading is not my forte, with the holiday I had to sneak a few minutes on the computer.  As for the price of the used spindle I must have gotten the price mixed up with all the other numbers in my head, ie. 15 minutes per pound times 12 pounds, 350 degrees for 3 hours, etc.  :)  I have someone near my house who might have an extra one laying around that will serviceable, if not I think you have shown me that the Speedi Sleeve my not be cost effective for me, but a great option to keep in my bag of tricks.

Hmmmm, guess you didn't read the thread I posted a link to above so I'll quote a part for you:

The best I can offer is to contact a bearing dealer in your area for a price. You will have to know the diameter of the seal area where the sleeve will go. and it will have to be in inches and thousandths so you have measure with calipers or a micrometer.

Here's a link to a project thread I did on the CJ2A forum last year. While not exactly the same thing, the rear outer hubs on an MB rear differential are virtually the same as the outer hubs on the front diff. I won't repeat the article here but there is info on the Speedi Sleeves as well as a double lipped seal replacement.

Yes they work fine, i use them all the time in our workshop, if your unsure about nominal sizes and fitting just talk to your local bearing supplier he will help you.

Yes, I have used speedi sleeves on many things. I used them on the yokes on my transfer case. I will use them on any area that uses a seal if it is worn and I can get the right size speedi sleeve.

My spindles were ok but if you will post the diameter of the area the seal runs on I can look at the web site and help you find the one you need. You need to give the measurement in inches and thousandths, for example, 1.525" not fractions.

Has anyone here used a speedi sleeve on there vehicles.  More directly on there spindle for the Dana 25.  I have one of my spindles with good sized pits and gouges where the hub seal rides.  I looked on there website but am unclear what size to order.  I know you can sleeve a pinion yoke but can you do a spindle too?  Also is the price for the sleeve worth it or is it better to just find another spindle.  Thanks
