we go on weekend hiking/ camping trips, you learn what is filling that is easy to carry

My wife and I do a lot of hiking and backpacking and frankly a CAN of anything is not going to be in the pack.  There are some really tasty freeze dried meals out there these days for a reasonable price.  Costco has been carrying Mountain House 12 packs that are less than $4.00 a pack (meal for two).  That's down to McDonald's prices.  Shelf life is more than a decade.  Perhaps the appeal of these would be less if we were in a desert where you needed to pack all the water also but that's not the situation were we usually wheel/hike/backpack (mountains).

The bottles what is packed in mre's. I actually have 8 meals with spam that have to meet certain criteria to be limited to 3 items including spam and none of the other foods can be refrigerated. They are quick and easy and filling. Spam get's a bad rap and the Turkey Spam is also very tasty.

I thought that I accidently navigated to the wrong forum,  until I saw the pantry on the wheelwells of tub.   ;D

Nice design!

here was a picture of the whole set up when my wife and I went camping at Fort DeSoto Park for our 35th anniversary couple years ago.

Pretty cool.
I noticed the can of Bush's baked beans. My favorite from a can. They're the next best thing to our favorite home-made receipe.
And I'll admit I like Spam as well, though I prefer the original.

Thanks, I have used it quite a bit with just me and also with hunting with my son and camping with my wife. I would not change anything on it with size or layout.

This is pretty interesting. Thanks for uploading. I've been debating on building a camp kitchen or chuck box that could ride in the bed and function from there or have attachable legs and set to the side. I like the color matching. Nice work.

Here is pantry project and it turned out better than cookbox because of what I learned. The material was a nice cedar 2x4 that i got off a job and ripped what I needed and the 1/4"MDF

Maximized space better and only put bracing where it was wanted

Knowing what gear I had made it easier to partition the inside

Unlike the cookbox I used the whole interior and didn't build up floor

Pretty tickled with this gusset, it kept center in place and didn't lose any access

What else do you need ;)

Just had 2 doors no need for a shelf, same trim as in cookbox for sealing it off

Same paint scheme. and hinges, used bullet catches for doors and they work fine

Heavy items on bottom left and middle for other food goods, top has a tin box with misc. stuff and also where foil, paper towels and the like go. Right side has percolator, espresso pot and dishwashing soap and top has 2 folding wash basins, dish towel, scrubber and oven gloves. it holds a lot of stuff and can be 1 man carried even loaded up. Rope handles also

This is a nifty little table I made and it is just right for the boxes and we use it with them back to back and have one end open for the cooking area

Here is my table with some adjustable holders I made for the camper candle lanterns

See how much vertical space you gain

This is the set up and the canvas top can still be strapped properly with boxes staying secured

That table can either be laid on edge across the front or rear of boxes for a wall to keep gear from falling around.
