It gets more confusing as on my jeep I have one hub outside the drum and one inside the drum on the rear axle. I understand why, the side which has the hub out side the drum has a drum with an outer flange 1/4 inch narrower than the other drum, thus if the hub is inside the drum the drum would be too far out from the backing plate thus not in contact with the brake pad across its entire width.
So at the end of the day the question is, what is the proper flange width for the rear drum on the D41/44? Or does it not matter as long as they are the same?
