I do it as you have described and not had any issues.  Also, you might back the cap out before you add grease and then make your adjustment.  Lets a little more grease get in there.

Gents... Me again... When adjusting the drag link... Manual says run down end screw until you feel resistance, then back off half a turn... Should the springs have any compression in this? Or just until you feel the resistance at first... Thanks all... You guys make this a lot easier.. Randy A.
