I have a 1946 CJ2A that I am stripping down for parts to save and scrap the rest. Yesterday my son and I pulled the rear drums, backing plates and axles to save them. Then we pulled the front drums backing plate and axles. The drivers side had 3/8" bolts holding the backing plate but the passenger side had 1/2" bolts holding it on. Who ever did the drilling and tapping did a very good job.

This photo is of the side with 3/8" bolts and notice the space between the bolt holes and the diameter of the large hole for the axle.

This is a photo of the 1/2" bolt side and notice the space between the bolt hole and the large hole for the axle. Who ever did this job was real good and must have used a mill and did a bolt circle pattern to keep the bolt holes from cutting into the large bore for the axle. I think it was nice work by a good machinist.
