YEAH, PEOPLE,  I was driving to work this morning and a lady in a car next to me was talking on her cell phone and putting on make up at the same time, she swerved over into my lane and almost made me spill my cereal

I worked on traffic signals here in Lee County Florida from 1991 to 2000 and have seen just about everything possible with driving and some stuff straight out of Bugs Bunny/roadrunner cartoons. it was bad enough with only cell phones back then and you couldn't get me back in a bucket truck for 3 times the money with texting. Our population doubles in tourist season and it get's pretty hairy. I always leave wiggle room.

You can most always tell when someone is on the phone. They slow down and start wandering all over the road.

Bill, you must have seen some crazy stuff when you were on the road.  So what states have the worst drivers?

Yup, the number of SUV's around here driven by brain dead phone callers is amazing... And on snowy days it is fun to watch. I'm glad I don't have much of a commute to work these days..

I'm just Lovin' the Northeast... ::)

+1

Cell phones in driver's hands scare me . . can't count the times a oncoming car crosses centerline into my lane,  then jerks back at last second.   Accidents waiting to happen.

I've pulled 7 or 8 people out this winter. What ever happened to buying a GOOD 4wd vehicle.

well, at least she did that.  less than a month ago, I pulled several people out of ditches or up a hill when we had some bad ice and snow.  it was funny.  several people didn't even say "thanks".  I can't imagine being that rude.

So, I'm on my way to a chimney fire (driving the Jalopy), I see a jeep (TJ) stuck in the ditch. I stop to make sure the driver is ok, which she was. I say "I'm sorry I can't pull you right now, I'm on my way to a fire." She said "no problem, I called a tow truck." I continue on. The fire was out and everything was good. So on my way back, the jeep was still stuck. Tried pulling it out with the winch but I kept sliding. Then I chained the back of it to a telephone pole and that did the trick. As I am disconnecting from the pole, she manages to get stuck again.  ::) Hook everything back up and pull her back out again. As I was following her down the road, I see her whip out the cell phone and start texting. She said that she pulled over (on a narrow dirt road with deep ditches covered in snow) to let someone by. Uh huh, sure, you were texting and driving I bet. She was pretty stuck, so she must have had some speed!
