Ryan,
ï¿½ There's a guy here in CT who deals in antique plates and tags. He sold me a pair of "49" tags and a pair of "51" tags. Send me a PM and I'll send you his Email.
If your looking for "a pair" he's the guy to call. ;)

I'm thinking there are places that make plastic license plate replicas and there is at least one place that does steel or aluminum ones... I bet you could get a replacement tag made if you had a picture of an original. A little aging and noone would be the smarter for it. I no longer have the link for the guy but a little searchin gmight find him again.

It's a white plate - the yellow ones weren't in use until later. I'm looking for two "51" tags.  And yes, if you have them, I could be very near Rt 15  ;D

Anybody happen to have any kicking around or know where I might find a pair?
That made me chuckle, sorry, easily amused. Nice plates, look brand new.

Does your state allow you to use year of issue plates as a legal plate? If so you can get a pair for your year Jeep and register it with them.

Yes, Maine will allow me to use the vintage plates, which is pretty neat. I think they are allowed for display only but I still need to have a newer plate for registration purposes somewhere on board - still trying to figure out exactly what the rules are. I'd like to get a pair of the original "51" tabs either way though.

So I've found that things can get pretty dull when waiting 10 months for body work that you thought was going to take 2 months. The rest of the Willys project is at a standstill as a result. Yes, I could be tearing into some of those components that I skipped over during the initial overhaul (axles, TC, etc) but I think I will hold off on any of that until I get it back together and put a few miles on it. So in the meantime, I stare longingly at other people's posts and sit around and buy Willys related junk on ebay. These showed up today - 1951 (or '52,'53,'54,55 as they are all the same) mint condition license plates. They're about as nice as you'll find and they'll look great bolted to the jeep. I was pretty psyched to get them. Now I need to find the proper "51" tabs to go with them. Anybody happen to have any kicking around or know where I might find a pair?
