This is interesting, I just emailed you about coming out the last week in September. It looks like some others are coming out that week so that is good. I am looking forward to the trip. On the way out there is a road in Kansas called Jeep Rd and I will have to unload the Jeep and drive on that road. I'll be coming out I-70. I think Maptilda said it was 1565 miles from here to Blanding and trailering the Jeep will take me about 3 days. I plan to arrive around the 24th or 25th.

I thin we need to start a separate thread for this extravaganza don't you? We could title the thread to indicate it as a trip to Calvin.

Matto
  Thanks for your response.

And just so you know, you or any CJ-3A member, may come anytime it would work for you.  Doesn't have to be in the fall when the others are planning on coming.  I was just contacted today by a 3A member who lives on the east coast who wants to bring some Jeeps and some friends and spend just a day here as a part of their venture out West.  We've scheduled later this month for that.

I'm always here, you are the ones that have to travel.  I can make it work most any time and would be glad to do so.

Calvin, As always you have the best trail pics. I can understand why you fight so hard to keep them open. A trip West is not in the cards for us this fall, (kids in school) however talk of your wifes cooking makes it very tempting.

Excellent pics, Calvin! One question, without a top on your jeep, don't you just get cooked by the summer sun? I find that here in Colorado, I really need that top on in the summer or I'll fry my 'solar panel'. I take it off in the fall and the spring though.
When I restored my Jeep I felt I didn't want a top. I have restored it nearly original and I don't like the original top. I've thought of a Best Top, (had that style on a couple of Jeeps when I was young) but that isn't even close to original (I'm sacrificing a lot for "originality": Stayed with 6 volt, spare tire on the side, vacuum wipers, original steering--a lot of things I would normally have changed). But, I felt this is just a summer toy. I park it inside during the winter.
On the hotter days I drive into the mountains just north of town. Otherwise, I go into the canyons and desert just south of town. I live at 6000 feet above sea level, so it's not really hot here, especially since I live in the foothills of the mountains. The pics in the post are at about 5000 feet above sea level. It was late afternoon and quite cloudy. Still, I usually wear a white hat and white long-sleeved shirt.

Calvin, tell us again where you are? It might be a long pull from Minnesota, but maybe there's a place a guy could rent a jeep?
I live in Blanding, Utah. That's 65 miles south of Moab (famous for Jeeping). Lots of Jeeps to be rented there. However, I would probably be able to acquire a friend's Jeep for a couple of days. Could probably acquire a couple of Jeeps.
I taught 1 year at a small community college in Winona MN. Pretty place. Long drive. Would be glad to have you come.

We're well into summer before I get to my favorite trail. The only guy I can find on a moment's notice to hit the trails with me is my friend with the Samurai (You have seen him and his Samurai before in my posts). My wife was out of town so it was just the two of us. No one to take pics.

If that rock (which originally fell from high cliffs to the right) fell onto a Jeep there wouldn't be much left.

I love driving down into the Cottonwood trees.

The sun's getting low. We didn't leave till late afternoon.

Sometimes he leads and sometimes I lead.

The trail isn't traveled enough to keep the foliage down. You guys better come and help me keep these trails traveled.

Seriously,
I've mentioned it before, I'd be pleased to have any of you that would like to come for a day or two, or more. A few CJ-3A members are planning on coming the last week of September. There's lots to see and do around here besides traveling the many Jeep trails. There are beautiful mountain drives on good dirt roads. Movie-famous Monument Valley is just 55 miles to the south. Can't get off the main highway there but still much to see close up. I know few of you live within even a state or two but, if you'd like to make the trip I'd love to be your guide in my neck of the woods. Bonus bribe: my wife makes the best Navajo Tacos in Indian Country and all who come will be treated to a Navajo Taco Dinner. Feel free to ask me about it. Send a PM or use contact info in my profile.
