Since I started this thread I feel I would be remiss not to take advantage of this opportunity to be a "Flat Fender" again.  That's the Jeep I love most.  I'll get my count to you.  I hope others will do the same.

I think a lot of people that have a lot of experience in a particular field tend to become to defensive when someone questions what they say. It's always good to have someone question a statement if only to clear up something. Regardless of how much you know or how you say something, there is always someone that don't understand or is unwilling to accept it until they have complete understanding of what is said.

I seldom accept what someone tells me as fact unless I know it to be so. If I doubt what was said I do some searching and questioning. I think it is foolish to blindly accept what someone says because they have years of experience.

When someone questions me about machining methods or automotive technical things I have to be careful to stick to the facts and only what I know about. It's not easy because sometimes our minds turns our opinions into facts.

Some statements are matters of opinion and not fact and you have to be able to sort those out. Opinions are not facts.

When I was a teenager and working in my uncles speed shop I asked him and the other two mechanics about how things worked or how to fix them. When he found out I was asking others the same question that I asked him he got mad and said, "I already answered the question, why did you ask someone else". I told him I wanted to know what everyone had to say and then try it myself so I could learn from everyones knowledge and develop my own.

He had no argument against that and let it be. I continue to do the same.

When I was a trouble shooter at Cummins Diesel I took nothing for granted and questioned everyone and everything. When trouble shooting a failure you start from the beginning no matter how many have tried to fix it and tell what they have done. I learned long ago you can't completely trust another's trouble shooting attempts and start from there. Document what everyone has said and done and start from the beginning with the knowledge of what has been tried.

Always keep an open mind and question everything.

I agree that post counts mean very little. I was referring to the creds established, and backed up, with a long history of reliable information and exhibited technical expertise.

Yes I agree ;D  You guys know your knowledge.  It shows you are proud of it.   If one does not take your advise that is offered that is their loss and they will learn that they should have listened.  I  do not care  who gives me the info. as long as I try it and it works. If it doesn't  I ask  again and stste what did not work and go on from there.

I never look at the amount of posts as to the reliability of the information from the poster.  I rely on what was said and how it was said.

I'm also an active member of a russian motorcycle site, and some members have over a thousand posts and they don't even OWN a russian sidecar bike !!

Some people post  a simple "Yes", "I agree", etc., and it ups their post count, but they offered nothing.  Then there are some that have less than 400 posts, but what they post is a gold mine of information.  Post count means nothing to me.

Then there are people like me, I've been driving Jeeps since before I got my license, owned probably at least 5-6 CJ's of different flavors and military Jeeps, but I'm always open to more information.

I feel about the same way Calvin. I too remember the post war years when Jeeps were everywhere and I longed for one.

I doubt we ever had the trails the West did but I am sure the Jeep owners had their places to go. The problem with trail riding now is the inconsiderate slobs that tear up the country side for the joy of doing it and the tree huger's that don't want anyone driving off the asphalt.

We have a few private properties in Ky that, for a fee, allow 4 wheeling on them.

I have been driving my Jeep almost everyday. When it snows it's the only way I can get in and out of the subdivision which is why I bought it. I had a Ford van for a back up vehicle and it seldom got driven. Since the Jeep has taken over as the back up vehicle it gets driven almost everyday. Since it's top speed is 45 mph it has only been driven out of the county one time.

This certainly is a nice forum and I found it by doing a search for Jeep forums. It does have a lot of knowledgeable people on it and while I don't know a lot about Jeeps I am a fairly good mechanic and machinist and can contribute something.

While I am at it I am still looking for a trailer for the trip West. I haven't gotten much work last year so the funds are low right now. Just beer money and gas for the Jeep.

Now, all kidding aside, as I have stated before, I really enjoy this forum with other members' posts, especially those with photos. �
From the time I was a small child, when there were so many WWII surplus Jeeps around town, I have always been drawn to these capable and intriguing little vehicles. �My little community had Jeep Safaris regularly during the summers when twenty to thirty Jeeps were packed with camping goods and families and off we went into the nearby deserts or mountains. I went along many many times as a child before I could even drive. There were lots of trails around here then and if we wanted to go someplace where there was no trail, we would make one. �Almost every family in this small remote community had at least one Jeep. �Oh, for the good ol' days.
I've made a lot of friends and acquaintances here on the 3A Page. Thanks to everyone who has asked questions, answered questions, and posted photos of their projects and Jeep outings and events. �And who cares about the rank, stars, or numbers?
